Galapagos Land trip

The Resort we are now staying is right on the water and will offer photo opportunities.

DAY 1 – Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island

Full day walk exploring Cerro Mesa. We shoot a host of subjects with key shoots including tortoise, rainforest and the beautifully red Vermillion Flycatcher (Darwin’s Flycatcher).

DAY 2 – Yacht Narel I – Plazas Island and Punta Carrion
The landing is dry, the dock is often taken over by large male sea-lions and their young, so before it is safe to land the guides have to ‘shoo them away’ by clapping.

Step carefully over the white guano and crab-covered rocks.

Opportunity to photograph land iguanas will then follow.

DAY 3 – North Seymour and Bachas Beach
Lying just to the north of Baltra, Seymour is a low island consisting of uplifted submarine lava. The landing is rich in wildlife: sea-lions, swallow-tailed gulls, lava gulls, tropicbirds, brown noddy terns and pelicans. The trail is a large loop; you can either go clockwise along the shore or head inland to visit the booby colony first.

DAY 4 – Bartolome Island and Sullivan Bay
The beach landing is wet. A short ten-minute walk across a sand dune takes you to the southern beach, where harmless black-tipped reef sharks and rays are often seen in the warm, shallow water.

Ghost crabs creep over the sand and disappear as you approach. Look up at the sky and often you may see a juvenile Galapagos hawk hovering overhead.

DAY 5 – Your choice
Maybe a sunrise shoot and reflect on the rather hectic couple of weeks and think about the upcoming trip to Easter Island.
