One last hurrah – farewell New Zealand
The Doc is now back home, but New Zealand put on last show before he left.
While travelling from Lake Wanaka to Queenstown along the Cardrona Valley Highway you climb into the Crown Range. As he climbed out of Cardrona Township The Doc could see snow, then more snow and it became apparent there had been a heavy fall overnight. So when The Doc reached the summit fresh snow was everywhere, but luckily not over the road. Enjoy:
The New Zealand is coming to an end
Only 2 days to go, really one and a half. The Doc is now in Wanaka over looking Lake Wanaka. Tomorrow he will travel to Queenstown and return the Campervan on Wednesday, then fly back to Sydney.
Here is a map of the travels so far, over 7,000km plus 2 plane trips. It feels longer than what the map shows!
NZ travels so far
An updated map of The Doc’s New Zealand travels so far. Only 2 weeks left.
The Doc made a choice not to explore the North West due to weather, so he is now exploring the North East of the South Island instead.
Pancake Rocks
Pancake Rocks and Blowhole is a limestone formation that is layered like, you guessed it, pancakes. Geologists do not completely understand how this happens. A rare event. The blowhole was to the left and is out of frame.
Findmespot – not
Well the SPOT Tracker is not working very well in NZ. Must be very few satellites orbiting this far south.
The Doc noticed on the SPOT NZ site you cannot use the SPOT as a personal locator beacon in NZ. That tells you something about reliability.
Greymouth
No lakes today, but still water. The Doc has been exploring north of Greymouth around Pancake Rocks and the Blowholes. The Doc leaves Greymouth tomorrow and heads further north.
Here is a beach shot using some of the techniques learned in the Photography Course. It was overcast, poor light and seamist around. Really bad conditions to take photos, but this image has minimal post processing and turned out well for such conditions.
This beach is a Blue Penguin Colony (known as Fairy Penguins in Australia).
Lake Matheson

The SausageMan Returns
In his exploration of the South Island The Doc happened upon Tuatapere, the self proclaimed Sausage Capital of New Zealand, nothing escapes the SausageMan! Here is the proof:
New Zealand West Coast
The Doc is now on the West Coast at Haast. After getting bad weather in Invercargill and then Te Anau he decided to make a run for the west coast. It paid off, good weather today and hopefully for the next few days as he makes his way to Fox Glacier, Franz Joseph Glacier and further north. Time to visit of the north part of the South Island, most of which The Doc has not seen.
