The Tip to Weipa

We said our goodbyes at Punsand Bay Camp Ground and headed off to Weipa travelling on the Western side of The Cape. Many more swamps and rivers than the east, but very little change in the overall geography, until you approach Weipa.

Bungie said to keep an eye out for empty dugout canoes which arrive at this time of year from Indonesia, brought by the current. No luck this time. There was a sunken wreck though.

Down the coast we flew.

We hovered over a crocodile breeding area next to the Wenlock River, you need to look hard to see the female croc guarding their nests.

As we approach Weipa the red bauxite from mining operations can be seen. Weipa was cut off due to recent rains. It has been raining quite a bit around Weipa, as we would find out the next day.

The Doc was dropped on the beach and walked up to get the keys, Bungie landed near the accommodation.
