About

In November 2013 The Doc’s Excellent Adventure started, perhaps not as famous as Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, but much more fun for The Doc.

First stop Galapagos Islands, after travelling through Chile and Ecuador. Once at Galapagos The Doc will spent 8 days on a boat travelling around the Islands.

Second stop, Santa Cruz Island (Spanish for Holy Cross) where he will spent 5 more days. Then back to Chile via Ecuador, then on to Easter Island.  Where we will visit the giant Moai carved by the Rapa Nui.

Last stop Sydney. Then 12 months travelling around Australia in a fully fitted out Nissan Patrol . Visited so far Outback NSW, South Australia, Flinders Ranges, Simpson Desert , South West Queensland, Kangaroo Island, Flinders Island and a quick trip to Cape York.

The Adventure continues in 2015, helicopter trip around Cape York in February 2015. Then a 3 month trip through central Australia to the Kimberley and Pilbara. Then 6 weeks on the South Island of NZ.

In November 2015, after 2 years on the road, The Doc decided to take a rest from all the travelling. Perhaps the occasional short trip.

A break from the road in early 2016 as The Doc indexed over 300,00 AWC images. Mid year The Doc visited to AWC’s Punglina-Seven Emu in the Gulf of Carpentaria (NT) and then a 4 day trip on The Savannah Lander Train.

In 2017 it was Perth, Cocos Keeling Island, Arnhem Land, the Northern Territory and Outback Queensland.

In 2018 it was Central NSW and the Channel Country (Outback Queensland), chasing night parrots and dinosaur fossils, plus some consulting work.

In 2019 Far North Coast of NSW (twice), Coffs Harbour (twice), New England Tablelands, Townsville (including Magnetic Island) and a trip to AWC’s Mt Zero-Taravale Sanctuary.

Kimberley trip in 2020 is cancelled due to the Wuhan virus. If restrictions are lifted in time The Doc will do WA wildflowers instead, looks like wildflowers is also out. May be some exploring of the NSW South Coast.

The Doc hopes to start traveling again in the second half of 2022. He has been working on a citizen science project during the lockdown concerning barks, which will continue.

The Adventure is on hold while The Doc recovers from a serious car accident in February 2023.
