The Doc leaves early Monday morning for Flinders Island for a second visit. Reports from the first trip are here, here (textures) and here (wildlife). There is still a few things to do, as Flinders is a large Island.

Cape York helicopter trip ends
The Doc has just arrived back from the 4 day heli tour of Cape York. Quite an experience. It will take a few days to sink in. Visited some very remote places, meet some interesting people and had a couple of wildlife moments, like the 14 foot croc and a swarm of thousands and thousands of metallic starlings flying in cloud formation at The Tip of Australia.
The GPS log of the rip below. Now starting to download 3,500 photos!
Cape York helicopter trip starts tomorrow
The Doc flys out to Cairns tomorrow, then onto Port Douglas on Sunday. On Monday morning he boards the helicopter for 4 days. Then he visits AWC’s Brooklyn Sanctuary, plus a few days driving around Cairns.
The 2 cyclones up north at the moment should mean lots of waterfalls 🙂
Textures of the Australian Bush – Sands of Angels Beach
Lake Eyre beginning to flood
Over the last few days Lake Eyre is filling up again. Great report from Australian Wildlife Conservancy’s Kalamurina Sanctuary on the north edge of Lake Eyre, with pictures, click here.

Thunderhead over Lighthouse Beach, Ballina
Weather has been a challenge
Ballina Lighthouse
A quick trip down to Ballina Lighthouse this morning to test a new filter. It worked well.
While photographing someone came up to ask about AWC, it turns out it was Simone, a former AWC employee. I recognised Simone from the AWC slides I scanned recently of Mornington Sanctuary. It is a small world. The mobile AWC Billboard delivers again.
The black and white versions.
Next stop Byron Bay Lighthouse.
Flinders Island – wildlife
A follow up report on the wildlife, mostly the albino echidna (actually light brown not white) and the Bennett’s Wallaby. Plus the odd wombat, some young masked lapwing and a reptile or two. Report and pictures here.
