ODO Update #2

Quite a few kilometres since the last ODO Update, and what a collection of places visited:

  • Francois Peron National Park, Shark Bay World Heritage Area, WA, 73,000 kms
  • Gascoyne Junction, near Kennedy Range National Park, WA, 72,000 kms
  • Millstream-Chichester National Park, The Pilbara, WA, 71,000 kms
  • Karajini National Park, The Pilbara, WA, 70,000 kms

Currently located at Kalbarri on the WA coast north of Geraldton. The Patrol will get a minor service next week. The Doc will then make his way to Laverton and travel across the Great Central Road arriving at The Olgas, the most famous part being Uluru, aka Ayers Rock.

Cape York – the magic continues

The magic continues, Day 2 of the Cape York Helicopter Trip. Report and photos are here.

The croc in the tannin coloured water is a 14 foot long!

Flinders Island – return trip

The Doc leaves early Monday morning for Flinders Island for a second visit. Reports from the first trip are here, here (textures) and here (wildlife). There is still a few things to do, as Flinders is a large Island.

Cape York helicopter trip starts tomorrow

The Doc flys out to Cairns tomorrow, then onto Port Douglas on Sunday. On Monday morning he boards the helicopter for 4 days. Then he visits AWC’s Brooklyn Sanctuary, plus a few days driving around Cairns.

The 2 cyclones up north at the moment should mean lots of waterfalls 🙂

Textures of the Australian Bush – Sands of Angels Beach

The Doc’ parents house overlooks Angels Beach, East Ballina. Here is a selection of sands from the beach, intermixed with algae, wind and wave action, rutile, footprints and even some surf scum. Take more notice next time you walk along a beach.

Ballina Lighthouse

A quick trip down to Ballina Lighthouse this morning to test a new filter. It worked well.

While photographing someone came up to ask about AWC, it turns out it was Simone, a former AWC employee. I recognised Simone from the AWC slides I scanned recently of Mornington Sanctuary. It is a small world. The mobile AWC Billboard delivers again.

The black and white versions.

Next stop Byron Bay Lighthouse.

Flinders Island

The Report on the recent Flinders Island visit is posted. Plus the short stopover in Launceston on the way to Flinders. Reports and pictures here.

Flinders Island – vistas

The howling winds died down today, so The Doc managed a few shots. These photos are all stitched panoramas, usually 2 or images. Locations include Sawyers Bay, Mt Killiecrankie, Castle Rock Point (that rock is massive) and the view from Walkers Lookout across Darling Range towards Mt Strzelecki.
